Our service is provided at no cost to you. Your Cost Consult Utilities may receive commission from energy suppliers or through our principal brokerage arrangements when we successfully arrange a contract. This remuneration may form part of the commercial price you pay for your energy. Applicable broker costs / Third Party Costs will be disclosed as required during the contracting process and/or within the supplier's Principal Terms.
1. About these Terms of Business
These Terms of Business set out the basis on which Your Cost Consult Utilities (the company, we,us) provides its commercial utility brokerage service to business customers (you, the customer). They apply from the point you first instruct us to seek quotations or assist with a utility contract, whether that instruction is given verbally, in writing, through our online portal, or by signing a Letter of Authority.
This is document YCC-PUB-001, version 1.2, last updated August 2026. We may update these Terms from time to time; the version that applied to your instruction is the one current at the date you gave us that instruction.
2. About us
- We are a commercial utility broker operating in the United Kingdom.
- We are a trading name of Your Cost Consult Limited (company number 17238761).
- Our registered office is 5 Glen Avenue, Bolton, BL4 8QW, United Kingdom.
- We provide a business-to-business service for non-domestic (commercial) customers only.
- We are not a supplier of electricity, gas, water or telecoms; we act as an intermediary between you and suppliers.
3. Our service
- We act on a non-advised basis. We do not provide advice or a recommendation as to which contract or supplier you should choose.
- We compare quotations from our approved supplier panel. We are not necessarily a whole-of-market comparison service, and the number of suppliers we approach may vary.
- We will use reasonable endeavours to obtain competitive quotations based on the information you provide.
- Quotations are indicative, subject to availability and to the supplier's acceptance, and may be withdrawn or changed by the supplier at any time before a contract is agreed.
- Your eventual supply agreement is made directly with the supplier, not with Your Cost Consult Utilities.
- We are not responsible for the supply, metering, billing or service performance of any supplier.
4. Your instructions and Letter of Authority
To approach suppliers on your behalf, we will ask you to confirm your identity, your business details and the sites/meters you want us to review. In most cases we will ask you to sign a Letter of Authority (LOA) authorising us to obtain quote information and deal with suppliers in connection with your account.
- The LOA does not commit you to switch supplier or enter any contract.
- The LOA is limited to the matters it describes and can be withdrawn by you at any time in writing.
- You confirm that you are authorised to instruct us on behalf of the business named in the application/LOA.
5. Quotations and contracting
Quotes we present are based on the consumption, site and contract details you give us, and on standing charges and unit rates supplied by or on behalf of suppliers. We pass these on in good faith but cannot guarantee their accuracy or completeness. Any figures shown are estimates and your actual charges will depend on your usage and the final terms agreed with the supplier.
- Meter point references (MPAN/MPRN), site addresses and consumption figures you provide must be accurate; incorrect information can lead to incorrect quotes or rejected applications.
- If you choose to proceed, the contract will be between you and the supplier, on the supplier's own terms and conditions.
- You should read the supplier's contract terms carefully before accepting, as those terms (not these Terms of Business) govern the supply.
- Commercial business energy contracts can become legally binding once accepted.
6. How we are paid
Our brokerage service is provided to you free of charge. We earn our income from suppliers and/or our principal brokerage arrangements. The ways we may be paid include:
- Commission or remuneration from the supplier you choose, paid when a contract is arranged.
- Payment through our principal brokerage arrangements for intermediary services.
Broker remuneration may be incorporated into the commercial price you pay for your energy. Applicable broker / Third Party Costs will be disclosed in accordance with the requirements applying to the contract and/or within supplier Principal Terms or contract information. You may request further detail on the nature of our remuneration for a specific quote by contacting us.
7. Business contracts and cooling-off
Because our service is provided to non-domestic (business) customers, the cooling-off rights that apply to consumer (domestic) contracts generally do not apply to a business energy contract you accept.
- You should not assume that a consumer-style cooling-off period applies to a business energy contract.
- Once you instruct us to accept or proceed with a quote, a legally binding contract may be formed with the supplier.
- Before instructing us, please make sure you have understood the supplier's contract term, rates and any early-exit or termination conditions.
8. Your responsibilities
- Provide accurate, complete and up-to-date information about your business, sites and usage.
- Confirm that you have authority to act for the business and to instruct us.
- Pay the supplier directly for any energy supplied under a contract we help arrange; we do not bill you for energy.
- Tell us promptly if your circumstances, contact details or instructions change.
- Review quotation and contract documents carefully and ask us or the supplier to clarify anything you do not understand before proceeding.
9. Our responsibilities
We will carry out our services with reasonable care and skill, handle your information in line with our Privacy Policy, and act in line with these Terms of Business. We do not warrant that any particular supplier or tariff will be available, that we will secure the lowest possible price in the market, or that any quote will result in a binding contract.
10. Liability
Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. To the extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for the acts, omissions, pricing or service of any supplier.
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from a contract arranged with a supplier.
- Our liability arising out of or in connection with our brokerage service is limited to the amount of commission we receive in relation to the relevant contract (or, if greater, to a maximum of £10,000).
You acknowledge that quotes and supplier terms are provided by third parties and that you remain responsible for the decision to enter a contract.
11. Data protection
We process personal and business data in connection with our brokerage service. Our use of your information, your rights, and how long we keep data, are described in our Privacy Policy. We will only share your information with suppliers to the extent necessary to obtain quotes and arrange a contract, or where otherwise set out in that policy or required by law.
12. Marketing and consent
We may contact you about related services where you have given consent. Marketing consent is separate from requesting a quote and is never a condition of receiving a quote or contract. You can unsubscribe or withdraw consent at any time, including by emailing utilities@yourcostconsult.co.uk.
13. Complaints
We are committed to resolving any complaint fairly and promptly. Full details of our complaints procedure, including how to complain, the relevant reference numbers, and the timelines we work to, are on our Complaints page. If you need additional support to communicate with us, please see our Additional Support page.
We are currently working towards membership of an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme so that, where a complaint cannot be resolved with us directly, an independent review route is available. While our application is in progress, complaints are handled in line with our published internal complaints procedure.
14. Withdrawing your instruction
You can withdraw your instruction or ask us to stop acting for you at any time before a contract is accepted, by contacting us in writing. Once you have instructed us to accept a quote and a contract has been formed with the supplier, withdrawal of your instruction to us will not cancel that contract — any cancellation will be governed by the supplier's terms.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms of Business from time to time (for example to reflect changes in law, regulation or our service). The version and date shown at the top of this page identify the current version. The Terms that apply to your instruction are those in force at the date you gave us that instruction.
16. Governing law
These Terms of Business are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with them that cannot be resolved through our complaints procedure or an applicable ADR scheme is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
